Answers from Gillian O’Donohue,
September Coach of the Month
PSG: How do you keep up the level of courage and energy necessary to meet your stretch goals?Gillian: Self-care and wellness give me energy, I’ve learned the importance of self-care and now make time for this every week. Being 100% in myself enables me to give that same level of energy to anything I undertake. Pilates is where I centre myself and almost re-group, it allows me time to energise my body and mind. I’ve also given up the ‘mammy guilt’ and spend guilt-free time on myself in regards to spa days and nights off. I genuinely feel like a new woman since I’ve started this new routine |
PSG: What have been your best ‘support systems’ in terms of keeping you motivated to continually learn and grow?Gillian: Continuing the relationship with the study group from the diploma course has been invaluable. This group of individuals share learnings, articles, book recommendations, seminars or courses, wherever we see value we share. Holding ourselves to a high standard and sharing our successes and learnings from any challenges really help. Being part of QCC is also a great resource, working together to ensure we are moving with the times and keeping up with any new agendas or trends that are coming down the line keeps me focused and motivated |
PSG: What can we do as coaches to honour our true selves in our coaching practice?Gillian: For me, it’s all about continuous development and learning. Being the best version of ourselves allows us to be 100% committed and focused on our client. Partnering with a professional coach, working on our blind spots and knowing our triggers is of the utmost importance. Investing in ourselves as much as we are invested in the client is extremely important, we should be walking our talk every single day |
