This time of year is really a huge opportunity to reflect on the ‘best ’and the ‘rest’ of 2016, and set stretch goals that allow for the latest version of ourselves to show up.
Defining me ‘NOW’ is a crucial part of the goal setting process and January allows this enquiry to naturally fit into the rhythm of life. The satisfaction of our personal joy is going to require a fresh self-inquiry into our values and drives and the use of our deepest strengths. What we want is a set of goals that purposefully push our perceptions such that we enable an ‘everything is possible’ outlook.
The reflection process needs to be redefined to take account of what’s new in the world, what’s new in you and what are the needs, wants and wishes required to fulfil the newest version of you. The world today is changing faster than ever giving rise to a new ‘Abundance’ of possibilities. Small thinking is a habit of invisible orthodoxies which we need to purposefully challenge and this is crucially where being brave, and courageous has the most impact.
Well set Goals consider the relationship between each goal and the impact they will have on your life with a whole system view. Clarity in these three key areas will energise the potential success of setting brave goals.
1. Know your outcomes
2. Know your drives
3. Know your values
Know your outcomes:
Our outcomes we set with passion, purpose and patience! We purposefully challenge our way of thinking by simply asking ourselves questions that elicit new ways of thinking. A few suggestions could be:
• Who am I now today?
• What do I want?
• How do I get it?
• Am I defining myself in a safe or comfortable way?
• What’s already changing or gathering speed around me that might serve me?
• How can I leverage new skills and competencies or assets to better serve me?
• How do I grow what matters to me most and make it last?
• What opportunities exist this year that did not last year?
• Are you linking any new desires and areas of interest together?
You need to be able to see the endless combination of skills and assets you can combine to get your best outcomes and extend the range of possible goals far beyond what last year you thought possible. Couple this self-enquiry to a relentless curiosity and the range of possible outcomes stretches even farther. A clear strategy that can be easily refined and adjusted along the way is one of the benefits of doing this work thoroughly. It’s important to choose Purpose over Perfect with intentional fore thought always allowing for resistance to show up so you can challenge your thinking. A personal S.W.O.T can be very meaningful addition to this self-analysis.
Know your drives:
To further stretch our thinking we take a deep dive into knowing what ‘Drives’ you now. Then linking our drives to every goal sets up the level of motivation required for success. It is set up deliberately in advance to make sure you are getting your most meaningful current personal drives correct and up to date as they define you ‘NOW’.
Know your values:
We redefine our values, and then link them accordingly to our intended outcomes. How are my values honouring authentically the newest version of me? Ranking or re-ranking your drives and values fresh today and also linking them together will capture the newest version of you, adding meaning and emotion further energising your potential for success.
Exciting for us all to consider is that we are these days only in competition with ourselves. Global connectivity and the availability of knowledge have brought such abundance, there is room for everyone to succeed. Your unique insight coupled with your skill sets and expertise could make the difference and set you apart into a new landscape of ‘everything is possible’.
Physically, nutritionally and spiritually I enjoy setting goals that lead to positive habits and these form one of the main pillars that keep my main goals re Career, Finance, Family, and Personal Growth and Connection progressing forward easier. Being physically strong and fit leads me to have more energy, and more positive emotions and reminds me to stretch myself and my body. Nutritional fitness allows me increase my free will, by reducing sugar cravings, reducing addictions and balances out my hormones adding to better positive moods and positive feelings. Looking after my spirit daily gives an ‘emotional edge’ managing better relationships, motivations, while increasing my self-awareness. Creating the roots of you while reinforcing the strong inner self as it secures you to the real you.
In Summary, when we have defined goals, using the framework of Knowing your Outcomes, Drives and Value’s, you unlock your possibilities. The pillars of motivation and habits set up your goals potential and wrapping around clarity on your values and drives energies your success potential.
