I was waiting for a phone call. Someone, who I had met somewhere, had promised me something and my hopes were high. A great opportunity. A new door open. Great new perspectives for the future. Just that one phone call. Time was ticking away, another cup of tea and another one… But the phone remained silent and nothing happened, absolutely nothing.
Somewhere at the back of my head this very familiar thought “it will happen, I know it will”. So I waited a bit more. Do you think that the phone eventually rang? Of course not. The call I was waiting for never came.
So I was left with the uncomfortable feeling that resulted from “Why did they never call? They said they would” and some personal verdicts “I know why. It is because…” and this is the part when you tell yourself the story why you aren’t/haven’t got exactly that something that someone is looking for.
“What about me” – I thought. “What am I looking for? Am I what I’m looking for?” Pretty much. “Do I have whatever I think all these things take?” Pretty much. So here are (yet again) the great words of the greatest Byron Katie
“Well, skip the middleman and be happy from here!”
“Well, skip the middleman and be happy from here!”
What a reminder! We all need it every now and again. There are people who we somehow put in charge of our lives and we wait: for their final decisions, a good hair day, their phone calls, for a positive mood, opening the door, for them showing us the light at the end of the tunnel, them showing us direction, one signature, maybe their happy face, their words of encouragement or whatever else we make our future success depend on.
As soon as they deliver (that thing) we will be on our way to stardom, but we have to wait for them first…
Have you ever waited to see if the person you needed to talk to was in a good mood? Have you ever waited for someone else’s go ahead? Have you ever put all your stakes on one situation or one person? We all have, but let’s get back on track. People in MY driver’s seat – you are fired! I’m in charge. Let’s put all of the stakes on one person that really matters! THE SELF!
Let’s claim back responsibility and ownership for what’s happening and who is involved. Let’s create an effective support system of people whose input we truly value and ditch the rest. Life is too short to wait for someone to give you something (or not) – just do it yourself. Remain in charge of what really matters for your own future success. Make sure that it’s you who remains in the driver’s seat of your own life.
And one more thing. This familiar thought I had while I was waiting “it will happen, I know it will”. IT doesn’t just happen, I MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR ME!

Good realisation Joanna!
I completely agree, life is too short to pay so much attention to what others say or do. Sometimes we have to be patient and wait for things to happen but it’s about taking action and focusing on our own priorities. Not someone else’s. Good on you!
