Ask the Expert
Answers from Gemma Hilario,
March Coach of the Month
PSG: How do you keep up the level of courage and energy necessary to meet your stretch goals?Gemma: Sometimes I have to dig deep to find both! Being Mommy, working full time and having my own business has its demands but I get energy from the diversity and variety in my life. “Lean into the discomfort” were words I heard on weekend 1 of the course and I made a commitment to myself to do that. When I tap into my achievements and successes whether personal or professional it gives me a new energy. I also love to squeeze in 30 minutes of High Intensity at the gym which is my other church! |
PSG: What have been your best ‘support systems’ in terms of keeping you motivated to continually learn and grow?Gemma: Firstly my commitment to myself. A video or a photo from my husband and kids on an early Saturday morning drive to Dublin for the course spurred me onto a deep desire to be the best version of myself for my girls. I want them to have a role model that they can admire and respect. My girlfriends have given me endless encouragement and positivity constantly reinforcing my ability to engage and complete challenges and cheering me on in the background. |
PSG: What can we do as coaches to honour our true selves in our coaching practice?Gemma: Show up as the real version of ourselves. Show up ready to engage both with the client and in our personal lives. Continuing to be coached beyond the classroom is a key element feeds into the authenticity of who I am as a coach and creates a space for self-reflection because “the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena”.
