How coaching has added value to my life:
My intention when I embarked on the Advanced Diploma in Coaching with Neuroscience was that if it benefitted me personally then I was winning if I learned something that I could apply to my day-to-day work – great! If it opened doors career wise then that would be a bonus. I wasn’t quite prepared for how much that ‘win’ would actually mean to me. From the moment I walked in to the Open evening in Cork to the moment I graduated it was like finding words I never knew existed and suddenly I was hearing them, understanding them and it was all making sense!
I had never considered Values to be such a vital feature of knowing myself. In making the connection between those words that guide every decision I make both personally as a wife, mother and friend and professionally – it’s that lightbulb moment when suddenly decisions that aren’t aligned with my values are easier to make. The whole idea of knowing myself has taken on a new importance and a new meaning.
My life before coaching:
My life before coaching in many ways doesn’t look dissimilar to how it does now from the outside in. But from the inside out the view is much better – it’s much clearer – it’s more satisfying – and the horizon is like a summers morning. In other words, Coaching is now like a religion in my life! I have taken on a new dimension to my thinking, feeling and being. I used to talk a lot about my ‘gut instinct’. Now I talk about my head, heart and gut. The dive into neuroscience has revealed this sharper clearer way of thinking and decision-making. I like to be busy and that hasn’t changed now that I have Coaching in my life but what has happened is that everything I do now has a high value and means something to me. There is less of a sense of ‘going through the motions’ and a heightened sense of ‘being present’.
My best surprise from coaching:
I have had so many surprises from coaching and learned so much about myself and the interactions I have with other humans. Meeting and building a coaching relationship with my Professional coach and experiencing that live chemistry that we learned was of such vital importance, has been a ‘connection’ that has offered me invaluable empowerment and given me the courage to be the best version of myself. Having the right fit in a coach is what makes this work! We should all have an accountability partner!
The peer friendships and unconditional support offered to each other as we embark on different levels of coaching in different spheres, with different types of humans but all with the same goal to facilitate a space for someone else to ‘feel’ and ‘achieve’ what I have since discovering coaching.`
What I would say to someone who has never heard of coaching:
Everyone has something to gain from coaching. It’s a space in an otherwise busy week where you can focus on yourself, get clarity and make goals but best of all achieve them! It’s the opportunity to work with a coach who is going to dig deep and find the best version of you that you didn’t even know existed and bring it to life because that’s what Coaching means to me.
3 values that bring me closest to my purpose:
Family, integrity & honesty. This is who I am – walking my talk. My family is my living success bank. My children and my husband are the reasons I do everything I do. They are they one’s who reality check me like any good coach!!
Integrity and honesty go together and they are almost like a comfort blanket. They are my ‘non-negotiables’. I’ve come to realise they are values I seek out in others too!
