How coaching has added value to my life:
Every time I would visit a book store or a library, I would wander towards the personal development section and pick a book or two but I never considered the idea of having my own life coach. I was in a successful job that was also giving me the opportunity to travel the world as I always dreamed of…or so I thought.
It was by chance that one of my friends mentioned to me that she was doing the PSG Life Coaching course and she needed pro-bono clients. She asked if I knew anybody that would be interested. I wanted to help her so I said ‘what about me?’. Little did I know that the one I was really going to help was myself.
Looking at my own values, beliefs, and what success meant for me was very powerful exercise as everything started to make sense in my head. I remember doing the wheel of life and visually seeing how unbalanced my life was. I was surprised at first but reflecting on it afterwards, the signs had always been there but I had ignored them. Coaching gave me the time to stop and look at the current situation I was in. I had not done that before as I had been caught up in the race of keep going and always being busy with the next trip, the next promotion, or whatever else preoccupied my mind. By pausing for a few hours and sitting down with my own life coach, I identified what I really wanted to do in life and what my definition of success was. During the coaching sessions we drew a plan and set goals and the reasons why I wanted to get there. Knowing my ‘why’ has been the most powerful thing for me as it connects with my own purpose in life.
First stop was a fantastic 3-month trip around the world full of adventures, visiting Australia, New Zealand and training as a yoga teacher in Bali.
Soon after returning to Ireland from the trip, I enrolled into the PSG Life Coaching Course. Coaching clients and being coached during the course, helped me to get to know myself better, improve my listening skills, and to be more authentic, which resulted in better and more honest connections with the people around me. I also discovered that coaching people was something I was very passionate about and good at so when the opportunity arose to coach PSG students as part of the PSG Professional Coaching panel, I said a big Yes!!
Experiencing such a fulfilment helping others with coaching or teaching yoga meant that my job in the big corporation world was no longer what I wanted to do and instead I created my own wellness company called Flowithme in January 2019. This was a challenging time for me transitioning from a very secure job where I had been for over eleven years to flying solo having my own company. I continued having regular coaching sessions to make the transitioning process smooth as well as working on my mindset to face the new experiences ahead of me.
Setting up my own company has been the best personal development course I have done! I face so many challenges and new experiences on a daily basis and having the right mindset is absolutely key. I have been supported by a business coach from the first day I set up the company and once more I have got to experience why coaching is so powerful. Having the clarity of why I do what I do has helped me to turn around my life from an unfulfilling corporate job to receiving the 2019 AIB Women in Enterprise Award in the Business Development category for my own company Flowithme.
I could have never imagined that trying to help my friend with her coaching course would end up in me turning by life around and experience so much fulfilment as well as living a balanced life. As Flowithme motto says “Everyone deserves to live their best life, whatever their choice of life is”, I believe I am living my best life to date and most important to me, the life I choose.
