It has been confirmed by science that spite our genetic predispositions our brain can change. Whether old or young, our mental state helps us to shape and define what we are. Hence, whether we choose to change or not is indeed up to us.
Practicing something over and over, strengthen that neuro pathway. Similarly, practicing positive thinking, would enhance the use of a new neural pathway that would result in a new emotional response. Research has demonstrated that environment and mind can physically alter our brain’s chemistry and consequently our emotional responses.
Practicing positive feelings and thoughts such as happiness, kindness and patience would form new neuro pathways and new emotional responses in you. This means that your emotions can be master by you, like your skills.
Living this moment – an opportunity to change
For instance, in this very moment you might be forming a new neural pathway to associate what you are just learning, which means that your brain might be also pruning old neuro pathways to unlearn old associations with old brain cannot change. The more you accept this new information, the more your chances for you to change.
You might be thinking, “How can I change?”. You become ready for changing when you become aware. Awareness comes when you encounter a deep realization of something that you feel, think or do. For instance, a while ago I became aware that I constantly find myself explaining to others: “I am bad at math”.
Firstly, I realized that my statement is not correct. Secondly, no one was asking if I was either good or bad at math. Thirdly, I felt like a dumb ass saying it. Therefore, what is the purpose of me saying something like that to myself and to others. All these reasons, offered me enough evidence and support for me to change. I started by detecting the impulse to rush out and say it. Self-awareness works as an inner dialogue. It is like contracting within yourself.
Acknowledging that the thought is there but you have decided not to express it, is powerful. The moment passes by and you are left with a feeling of victory inside of you, because no one knows that for that moment you were in control of your emotions. I got new and valid facts to support my new behaviour: I realized how unnecessary and unappropriated that comment would have been. The conversation flowed without interruptions. The outcome was more positive because I was not feeling sorry for myself.
Keep the momentum going
Imagine the power in us! that we can in fact master every thought we create. Imagine if we become creators. Imagine that we own it. We are the creators of our thoughts. We are its masters. Imagining, thinking and acting on it! The world mirrors what you think. Hence, think like a creator who owns every thought!
The importance to inhibit negative emotions and replace it with a positive association are endless. There are many ways to achieve it. Visualization, Meditation, gratitude journals, tapping and many other ways. Whatever your way, own it.
How would you think if you were the owner of your own thoughts?
What would you cultivate in the garden of your thoughts?
