2016 is coming to an end this month. It’s been another successful year filled with the growth of our PSG professional coaching community. We’re very proud of its diversity, professionalism and quality. Every coach enriches the community with their experience, background and unique personality. They bring so much value and wisdom into the community. Since the beginning of 2015, each month we’ve been sharing with you the insights and knowledge from one of our coaches. We’ll definitely continue this great tradition in 2017.
In December we’re delighted to announce that our Coach of the Month is Joanna Binder. Take a look at what Joanna has answered about her lessons learnt since gaining her Coaching Diploma, her most fulfilling moments, and her predictions on the skills that clients will want to develop in 2017.
Here is our Coach of the Month – December 2016 – Coaching Q & A
PSG: Since qualifying, what are the top 3 lessons you have learnt that support your growth as a coach:
Joanna
1.The importance of grounding myself, honouring my values and being true to myself
From the moment the concept of values was introduced to me it has always been a bit challenging. Whenever I happened to work on them I discovered something more, something deeper and truer. It took me some time to realise that frequently the feeling of loss and dissatisfaction comes from one of my values not being honoured. Now, having this knowledge, I am able to revise the feelings and recover quicker and more effectively. As a coach, I need to be strong and grounded, and that comes as a result of honouring my values.
2. I am a coach
Holding a diploma in my hand did not make me a coach in my head and heart. It took me about 4 months to realise that in order to be a coach I simply need to embrace it. I told myself:” I am a coach and that was it.” I owned the title and gained focus and drive to grow as a coach.
3. My tribe
At the beginning I perceived coaching as a solitary profession: there would be just me, my business and my clients. And then I realised that it is very difficult for me to continue, to stay focused, updated and inspired. I have started attending QCC live events and online meetings, reaching out to other coaches and now I feel that this is where I belong. Meeting with the fellow coaches on a regular basis gives me strength and inspiration to continue on my own.
PSG: To – date, as a coach, what has brought you the most fulfillment?
Joanna
There is no one event that has brought me the most fulfillment. I feel happy, satisfied and fulfilled as a coach whenever I see the change happening in a client. It is a truly amazing, almost magical, moment when I see the eyes opening wider and shining because of a new understanding and strength. This shift together with the thought in my head: “I knew they could do it and they got there”, fill me with the greatest sense of fulfillment.
PSG: What do you foresee as the key skills our clients will want to focus on for development and growth for the New Year
Joanna
New Year is a time when people want to start anew, turn their worlds and life upside down and make a meaningful change. I think that 2017 will bring us still more people in search of their personal passion and professional fulfillment, and how to combine the two together to earn their living while doing what they love.
Another theme would be meaningful connections. Despite the fact that we are increasingly connected online, we are becoming more and more disconnected in reality; the sense of identity and belonging may be big themes in the New Year. Finally, agility, resilience and embracing the changes; the world is changing and the scale of changes is unprecedented: the refugees, the results of the US presidential election, the business moves, all of them may have an impact on our lives to a smaller and greater extent. Our clients will be looking for the ways to cope with the change, to adjust, to accept it, both in their personal and professional lives.
