At PSG we encourage growth and support quality, especially in coaching. It is our pleasure to offer our coaches a platform where they can introduce themselves, their work, purpose, approach and a view of coaching as a profession. Every month we invite one coach from our community to become our Featured Coach for that month. This way we offer you an opportunity to tap into this great resource pool, avail of the shared knowledge and connect with our Coach of the Month.
We are happy to introduce you to our August Coach of the Month, Angela Brophy.
We asked Angela about her lessons learnt since gaining her Coaching Diploma, her most fulfilling moments and the reasons for clients needing to work on awareness.
Take a look at Angela’s Q & A
PSG: Since qualifying, what are the top 3 lessons you have learnt that support your growth as a coach:
Angela
1. Never stop trying new things or new places!
The world doesn’t stand still for any of us. It’s moving at a pace never seen before! Everyone wants everything done yesterday! It is changing at lightning speed. So if we are not willing to change to keep up, we will inevitably be left behind. So I believe it’s important to keep a close eye on what’s happening in the coaching field and to try anything new for myself. It keeps me fresh, current and will always assist with my marketing strategy, as I will always have a new message or idea to advertise! I tried and loved Skype Coaching, I started Group Coaching and I now work in 2 countries…. I never thought I would do any of that but by allowing my mind to take me somewhere new every day, I will always be moving forward!
2. I need to keep learning!
My biggest success and my proudest moment was when I received my Diploma from PSG…. This was the day my life path changed forever! I was on a journey to somewhere new in my life. But I realised shortly after leaving that it was actually only the beginning of a life long journey of learning. So I registered to do the Career Coaching Certificate with PSG, as I could see that many of the clients that approached me needed help in that area. I will soon be registering for the Train the Trainer course and I want to become an expert on Emotional Intelligence, as this is vital in the coaching world. I realise now that we should never be afraid to push ourselves along the path to increased knowledge…. After all, how can we help others without taking care of our own personal development first?
3. It’s ok to be afraid
It was a terrifying thought to know that I was now responsible for creating my own income, for creating my own pathway in the world and for building my business from nothing! I worked through the fear and realised that yes, you do have to go to the ‘edge of chaos’ to find your best ideas, to break down your mind barriers, to find the answers. I kept going and soon the fear turned to excitement, when I realised, hang on a second I can actually do this! So work through your fear always, in fact you should welcome it, as you know that good things will follow!
PSG: To – date, as a coach, what has brought you the most fulfillment?
Angela
The moments when clients look me in the eye and say, thank you, you’ve made such a difference to my life! That’s the reward that makes me want to be a coach every day for the rest of my life! It’s the most amazing feeling and it’s why I wanted to become a coach in the first place, I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to help people and I wanted to be independent. It’s so fulfilling when I see a client succeed, when they do what they thought was impossible and when they come to a follow up meeting with a smile larger than themselves, to me that’s the picture of my success as a coach!
PSG: What do you foresee as the main reasons for clients needing to deepen and discover new awareness?
Angela
I see this mainly with clients working as Managers… their world has changed a lot and continues to do so. I work with HR departments quite a bit and in particular in the larger companies, they are trying to promote a Coaching culture within their management teams. Therefore the Managers who would have been in their roles for a long period of time are sometimes hesitant to change. This is where I come in and help them to realise that they need to create a new awareness within themselves, their teams and their management style. By encouraging them to go deep within themselves, I help them to realise that they have the ability to do this and they discover that not only the team benefits from the new approach but that the uplift in business is both visible and encouraging.
