I would like to honor the late Dr Wayne Dyer, known as the “father of motivation” in this month’s blog.
It’s been lovely, but it’s time to go as I have somewhere else to be.
Working with so many clients who feel stuck in a rut, it’s apparent that we, as humans, can be overly tentative about trying something new.
Have you spent the last weekend doing the same thing as other weekends?
Have you got a place on your sofa that’s ‘your place’ – where there is an imprint of your derriere because you are always there?
Have you been ordering the same takeout for years?
Come on, wake up, and explore new territory
Ok, so ‘explore new territory’ is a coaching term. But it’s not exclusive to coaching. It’s the action of purposefully seeking new, broader and deeper perspectives that will lead to you arriving at a new place. In other words – Engage in new experiences
“You don’t need to be better than anyone else; you just need to be better than you used to be” Dr Wayne Dyer
It helps if you have a growth mind-set and are willing to try something new and can allow for the possibility oif making mistakes along the way.
I’ve talked about neuroscience before and how trying new things activates new nerve signals that lays down new connections in our brain leading to ‘plasticity’ – brain change and growth.
Alongside the new connections in our brain we also release chemicals in to our bodies that directly impact our attitude and mind-set
There is exciting research findings from psychologist Rich Walker from Winston-Salem State University who looked at 30,000 event memories and over 500 diaries, ranging from 3 months to 4 years. His research show that people who engage in a variety of experiences are more likely to retain positive emotions and minimize negative ones than people who have fewer experiences.
“Infinite possibilities are available if you follow a pertinent sequence of creative action” – Dr Wayne Dyer
What could you put in your diary over the next month that will enable you lay down some positive memories?
Want some inspiration?
Here are some things that my clients have chosen to do over September:-
- Get a bike and cycle a mountain trail
- Go swimming in the sea on a rainy day
- Arrange a college reunion
- Have reflexology
- Travel alone for a weekend break
Where will you get your inspiration from?
Why not check out the amazing work by Dr Wayne Dyer
“Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose” – Dr Wayne Dyer
