Our theme this month is Sink into Summer. So how do you do that? What’s your Summer self like? How does it feel sinking into Summer?
It’s a fine feeling for sure. And you’ll probably agree if I say that it was much easier to truly experience the joy of Summer when we were kids. Off school for a few months, spending more time outside, making friends, having fun. Life was easy. And if you can recall that feeling from back in the days right now, then I say “It’s not all gone!” Sure, as adults apart from the noticeable weather change and maximum 2 weeks of holidays in Summer, our routine doesn’t change much in June or July.
But this awareness means that we can do something about it. Don’t you want to make the most of this time of year, regardless of what the Irish weather is like?
Exactly! So here’s my personal approach to sinking into Summer.
If you read my post in May, you know that this year I decided to focus on a different, often forgotten or unexpected emotion every month. On average we operate with about 200 emotions a day. However we probably have a true awareness of maybe about 3 and are able to identify and name maybe 5. There is a large range of emotions that we forgot about, are not willing to experience, or we pretend they don’t exist, e.g. patience, awe, pride or a state of wonder. What do we say when asked “How are you?” “Stressed, tired or grand”. That’s about it.
So starting in May I began my quest to experience more from life and to enjoy life more. In May I was exploring patience as a forgotten human quality.

What’s happening for me in June? Here are some insights. From the 1st of June I celebrate courage. Or more specifically my word of choice for June is adventure. It brings back a lot of memories and childlike feelings inside me. Excitement.
What does an adventure look like and what actions can I take to bring more adventure into my life. With courage of course. It will be needed, because the thought of more adventurous choices, triggers resistance. So I’ll have to show up more, say “yes” when I would normally say “no”, put up with more, stretch myself and trust that it’s for the best. Ok, I’ll do it. And I believe that Summertime is perfect for that. Adventure also means excitement and the joy of doing things differently, doing more with more passion. Adventure is enjoying the unknown for the thrill of learning, challenging yourself and growing as a person. Adventure means being brave in getting to know our abilities and discovering what else is possible. We often think that we know ourselves well, we know what to expect and we restrict ourselves to stay within certain limits. I say – let’s think again.
It’s stepping outside and trusting that as human beings we all have a fantastic potential. The potential for more.
So what does more look like for you? What is going to be your adventure in June? What challenges are you brave enough to face to make this first month of Summer a time of childlike excitement? If you think you know what your life is like, think again! If you think you know what you are capable of, think again! In the same way, as a coach, I simply refuse to believe when my client says “I’m (this type of person)” I invite you to look at yourself through a different lens without trying to fit into a specific, usual view of self. Change perspective. Surprise yourself. Allow yourself to be different.
This Summer embark on a new journey more adventurous than ever before. Sink fully into Summer and feel what it really means to be alive.
Have you got an idea of what you want to achieve? There is no recipe or script here. Make it big enough to feel challenged but also small enough to still enjoy it. Have fun.
So just to make it really special, before you make any statements or officially declare your next adventurous steps, let’s make it super fun, super summery and super real.
Play this video first and let it become the official summer trailer to your adventure.
