“Never stop learning” is one of the best and the most meaningful sayings. At Positive Success Group we value education and understand the power of it. It is incredible what can be achieved when we keep our minds open to grow, explore and expand. The possibilities are endless when we adapt the growth mindset at every stage of life. Opportunities for learning are everywhere. Every step of the way, we can not only learn about the wealth of our own potential but also the potential of others. Change directions, choose different approaches, new points of view and open up to new possibilities based on the new learning. Knowledge has an incredible power.
Learning habit for coaches
The growth of a professional coach and the quality of our services depend on the growth mindset. If we aim to truly succeed in this profession, commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) is the key. International Coach Federation as well as other organisations for professional coaches require a certain number of CPD hours a year from every member. You might choose to apply for such membership as soon as you become a professional coach or later in your professional career. However the appreciation for continuous learning and understanding of it’s impact on your coaching services, should be embedded in your mindset right from the start. That’s why we call it a growth mindset – a readiness to grow at every opportunity.
How do our clients benefit? They experience it. We coach with new awareness, better understanding of clients’ circumstances, we are more current in our thinking, we are better able to support clients in overcoming challenges of today and help them prepare for a more successful tomorrow.
An ongoing approach to learning as a coach does not always mean classroom learning, a new course, certificate or a diploma. Opportunities for learning are present in everyday activities: reading news or a new best selling book, self coaching, blogging, following thought leaders, watching relevant videos or webinars, exchanging experiences with other professionals and obviously practising coaching. At PSG we call all of these activities Daily Knowledge Practice – what are yours?
Once you’re in a profession like coaching, your commitment is required as well as understanding of the responsibility you have towards your clients. In the essence you represent the coaching industry as a professional. Learning at every opportunity means that you are never behind with your thinking, tools and strategies. CPD becomes your professional way of operating. The number 1 habit to develop for professional coaches is exactly this – Daily Knowledge Practise.
