We are so used to the world of instant gratification that we have lost touch with what truly satisfies us.
We try very hard to get satisfaction from everything with a small e, e-commence, e- learning, e-books. What about the big E – EXPERIENCING.
We know that we get longer lasting and a more meaningful satisfaction from experiences we have rather than possessions we obtain.
Let’s compare the levels and longevity of satisfaction generated from experiences when Guided by our heart versus being Guided by our head
What truly happens to you when you get a possession you want?
How long does the sense of satisfaction last?
Maybe as long as the possession lasts (if you are lucky)
What about the longevity of the sense of satisfaction that comes from an experience that was guided by your heart?
Is there a difference for you?
Most likely the answer is YES.
The scales have fallen from our eyes over the last 7 years.
We had to scale things back and yes we were all impacted in different ways. Whether that meant we had to give up certain things or that we had to have less of certain things, we woke up to the fact that the ‘things’ didn’t seem to matter as much as we first thought.
When I read the biographies of people who appeared to have it all ( Power and Money) the message is the same in each one. Power and Money are never enough. They do NOT bring long lasting satisfaction. Of course they do bring options and comfort but it’s obvious that’s not enough. The realisation that’s reflected in each story is that having and obtaining is not the answer – it’s part of the answer but it means nothing until you balance it will GIVING
Through our experiences in the last 7 years, we can see what really matters to us now to achieve long lasting and meaningful satisfaction.
What can we do?
Listen to what your heart tells you – your whole heart!
Make a note of what actions really are satisfying, the ones that make you feel warm and human and connected to others.
Are they the actions where you GET something or the actions where you GIVE something?
The irony is that we were so busy trying to satisfy ourselves with getting, that we forgot that the most satisfaction you can get is by giving.
How twisted is that?
Yes, GIVING is the new GETTING
Research now says the GIVING helps improve our feeling of wellness !
February is the heart month. This is the month to give your heart a voice. Put in to action things that makes your heart sing.
