You must have heard it by now “Have you done your Christmas shopping yet “?
It drives me crazy!
While it’s a great talking point it’s a conversation that brings a certain type of energy with it. It’s a kind of serious, intense, need to dash and spend some money on ‘stuff’ sort of energy.
Do you like it? I don’t.
I am wondering if it’s a symptom of human evolution that we are becoming more aware and conscious about meaningful gifts – what is and what is not meaningful.
Is it time for a different perspective on what constitutes a gift of value or meaning?
Lets start by noticing that the first two letters of MEaningful is ME.
So let’s look to ME first for meaningful gifts
What if all these years we have been missing the go to place for gifts – ourselves.
We have to ask ourselves… What have YOU got to offer or share that is meaningful?
Consider your strengths and how to gift ‘YOU’ to others
Are you good at cooking? – You could gift a cooking lesson
Are you good at driving? – You could gift a lift to that out of the way place that is hard for others to get to
Are you good at listening? – You could gift a heartfelt ‘it’s all about you’ couple of hours
Are you good at making friends? – You could gift an invite that makes it easy for someone to join a group
Are you good at supporting? – You could gift a ‘lean on me’ evening
Are you good at researching? – You could gift an ‘I will find it for you’ offer
Are you good at technology? – You could gift some time for ‘ I will get it connected and working’
Are you good at organising? – You could gift a de-clutter afternoon for an office or a wardrobe or an attic
I think we have allowed ourselves be misguided by defining the words giving and caring as a giver of material or commercial goods.
Surely we are more evolved now. We get it that ‘stuff’ is for putting in the turkey.
Gifting is for making a meaningful difference and is best done when it comes directly from ME to YOU
If you were to receive something from the list above – would that be meaningful and impact-full and make a difference to your life?
It certainly would for me.
Be the change, be the ME in meaningful gifts
