Have you ever felt truly and honestly inspired?
Do you remember a moment when you felt like moving mountains just because “YOU CAN”
Recently I posted this image on our Facebook page and it has struck a chord with many of our followers (“fans” sounds a little over the top to me).
So I started thinking about the meaning of these words, trying to understand what in fact makes them resonate so well?
I remember a few of these moments in my own life when I felt really inspired. It’s a shift in thinking, a new perspective that I did not see before. Someone does or says something that makes me quite literally feel “When I grow up I want to be just like that person”. It’s a great feeling and it doesn’t stop there. There are other emotions triggered as a result: more self-confidence, a capacity for creative thinking, enthusiasm. For me it’s almost on the edge of euphoria “Yeah, that’s right let’s do it”. Often it’s a ted.com talk that has this effect or a great book. Nevertheless these moments push me forward and make me really admire that inspiring idea and the person behind it.
Does it always have to be a great speaker or a book that has this effect on us? Can it happen on a regular day in a very familiar place? Can we find inspiration in an ordinary event involving an ordinary person? Can you and I also inspire others through our actions and decisions every day?
The answer is: YES! ABSOLUTELY!
Why? Because some of the things we say or do every day we take for granted. We all have strengths and virtues that others would want for themselves. We are the people who others may aspire to become. We all have paths behind and ahead of us and our stories are not only worth sharing but also uplifting and indeed inspiring. By being strong and owning our entire selves we become role models.
The interesting part of the quote “Be strong you never know who you are inspiring” is the “you never know” part. If we don’t know exactly how we really touch people we interact with every day, wouldn’t it be a great idea to be “on a mission” most of the time? Wouldn’t it be a great idea to be real, honest and true, to show integrity and own our success as well as our setbacks with equal dignity? This isn’t a job for “the smartest” and “the most enlightened”. We all can, because we are all ordinary extraordinary people and to get through every day challenges we need every day “heroes”. Just like you.
We have absolutely no idea how and who we inspired over the years. But as Maya Angelou says
So be aware of your power to inspire. By honouring it, you in fact honour those who find you motivating. Be strong and walk through life knowing that you have the capacity to shine and the light that you carry, others can see and admire.
