We are humans. Stating the obvious? Maybe, but sometimes this is the last thing that we want to accept and admit.
Every day we experience more than 200 emotions. Are we open to experience all of them fully and embrace all of them the same way? Are we open to be fully human every day? Probably not.
We choose what’s comfortable, safe, known and familiar. This way it is easier to get through each day knowing what to expect. Deep inside we are aware that it’s not always sweet and sparkling, but usually this is all we are willing to talk about. So we demonize and avoid sadness, pain, anger, regret or fear. They are like fires that we immediately want and need to put out because “I’m grand! I can manage just fine”.
But life is never that simple. In reality unexpected events and uncertainties are always just one decision, conversation or action away. Success is also one decision, conversation or action away.
Do you miss out on opportunities to succeed because you avoid uncertainties?
Do you stop yourself from making decisions because you’re unsure of the consequences?
Do you avoid change in order to avoid resistance, discomfort and doubt?
I wonder would you be willing to stop for a moment and acknowledge these emotions. Would you be willing to notice them, honour them and let them lead the way? How could you grow as a person allowing and accepting all that you are, fully experiencing what it means to be human. To be still but with a real purpose.
This is the direction in which the world seems to be going. People like Brene Brown are helping to create and shape a new way and quality of being. The roles we are in do not really matter. So it is not about just being someone. It is about being a REAL human.
October is a great time for embracing change, going places you have never been, doing things that you have never done. We know now that it’s not about being fully prepared, equipped and knowledgeable. It’s about trying and taking risks. It’s about readiness to be real, knowing that change means sometimes sadness, failure, exposure and vulnerability. It’s about knowing that this is what being truly human means. If/When we experience these emotions the world is not going to end, people will not walk away from our lives and these emotions don’t mean that we are unworthy of the best that life has to offer.
So today I am asking you “How are you?” Really pause and let yourself truly feel the emotion that you feel. Appreciate and embrace it. Let yourself breathe and take time to understand your own truth in the moment. Let yourself grow to be who you really are, to feel what you really feel. Only then will you have the courage to forget about your comfort zone, for when we are truly human NOTHING can ever be outside our comfort zone! NOTHING!
