What is your default response to the majority of questions you are asked? What is your default response to the questions you ask yourself? How often do you automatically say “No” and what are your reasons? Are you saying “No” because you think it’s an easier option?
The world, our choices and the situations we find ourselves in are never only white or black. There are many shades and colours which means that there are many possible solutions and options for us to explore. When you give that easy “No” it leaves no room for opportunities, ideas and creative thinking. You don’t give (yourself) a chance. There is no way forward, no open doors, nothing to build upon.
It’s July and we are in the middle of a beautiful Summer. It looks like a fantastic opportunity to make the best out of each day, be optimistic and take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
This month to support you in searching for possible options and focusing on actions we encourage you to say
more often than you say “No”.
“Yes” is so much more powerful. “Yes” grows possibilities. It opens doors and enables you to take the time needed to explore what’s ahead of you. Only then will you be able to create a structured plan for your personal and professional future. Be open minded and willing to dig deeper and see below the surface. Even if at the end you still say “No” it will be an informed decision based on sensible consideration, assessment of available resources and a clear picture of your current situation. It will not be a quick, automatic, first response but a conscious choice that you make yourself.
E.g. “This new project involves a lot of traveling. I’m saying no. I’ve never enjoyed work trips”.
Wait! Say “Yes” not to the project but to the opportunity.
“I’ll think about it before I say no. What are the opportunities that might become available to me if I say yes? What will I enjoy during my business trips, who will I meet? What doors am I opening saying yes to this project? Maybe there is an option for me to try it and see what I think about it after my first trip?”
You’ll be amazed at all that becomes available to you because you have said “Yes” not to the actual idea but to seeking opportunities. You never know exactly what will come your way when you say “Yes”, but you can be sure that nothing else is possible if you close the opportunity with a simple “No”.
Claim back your power to decide. If you say “Yes” you can still say “No, I changed my mind”. Make “Yes” your default response. Be open to possibilities. Take full advantage of your power to choose, power to determine your future and find a direction in which you are happy to progress.
Is opportunity knocking? Just say “Yes”.
