We asked one of the graduates of the recent Certificate in Group Coaching and Team Facilitation course an important question, “What would you say to someone who is thinking of attending the course?”
Below is her reply…
“Successful managers are those who know how to get the best out if themselves and how to get the best out of others. They have an inspirational style of leadership, they are confident (that goes without saying), they listen and understand and truly lead their teams.
This is exactly what I achieved as a result of this course. I can stand in front of my team, prepare for a meeting, facilitate or deliver training programmes and I no longer think
“What will I do if they don’t find me and the topic interesting enough?”
“What if someone questions what I say?”
“What if I don’t know how to manage the group?”
“I don’t want any interruptions and loud opinions in the room. I hope they just sit there and listen”.
Do you have these thoughts sometimes? I know I did. And I also know that at the time I had nothing to support me. I wasn’t prepared for real groups. I wasn’t prepared to work with real people.
So I decided to complete the Train the Trainer course with the aim of developing relevant skills in designing training programmes. It was a great decision and a valuable first step but it wasn’t enough. There was something very important missing for me. I didn’t know how to lead the group. I didn’t know how to recognise different styles of learning and different personalities. I wasn’t sure if every member of my team benefited in the same way from what I had to introduce.
For me the Certificate in Group Coaching and Team Facilitation with Positive Success Group was the missing piece.
I understand my role as a facilitator now and I know that when I stand in front of the group, it’s not about me and my performance. I am there for the benefit of my team. I am prepared to adjust my style to suit their needs. I know what to expect and I know how to manage challenging situations and progress with the learning material. I know how to appreciate the wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that everyone brings and I know how to get the best out of each member for the benefit of the entire team.
I understand how groups think.
If you are a manager like me, I am sure you don’t want to be “just ok” in your work performance. Our people skills and the ability to first understand our teams and then effectively communicate with them are critical. We all know that nowadays basic management skills are not enough. If you are considering taking this course I can confirm that for me it was a key component of my own professional development.”
