When I first heard of Personal Effectiveness I thought of someone who had sufficient skills and experience to deal with various life situations. This is because Personal Effectiveness is not about being in the right place at the right time. There is nobody in the world who always finds themselves in their ideal circumstances. But there are many people who live very effectively because they have the right attitude and approach toward different situations.
Together with the recent developments of concepts in Positive Psychology, other models and ideas have emerged. Personal Effectiveness is definitely one of the theories that is linked to wellbeing and helps translate these concepts into everyone’s personal life. They become practical and easier to implement.
Personal Effectiveness is described in relations to key generic skills that are important in dealing with various situations in work and personal life. Everyone attending Personal Effectiveness courses will therefore develop skills that are linked to success, goals and positivity.
Personal Effectiveness is a universal need. Having effective living skills can lead to more control over daily life, more focus and sense of achievements. Those who live effectively feel more energised and they are able to manage themselves when necessary. They are better prepared to deal with the unexpected and are much more likely to manage stress and trust in their own capabilities and strengths.
Developing personal effectiveness is an opportunity for self-reflection and assessment of individual ways of operating. Personal effectiveness requires a level of responsibility necessary to honestly approach the new learning that leads to a change in an individual performance.
The combination of skills that help us live effectively, manage ourselves, build relationships and shape the environment we are in, can be different for different people. Some of them we have already developed at an early age and some still require work due to life circumstances we found ourselves in. Nevertheless personal effectiveness skills can and should be developed by everyone for the better quality of life.
